1550 - Old Ox Yard C16-C17

Old Ox Yard Oare 

The Old Oxyard, a house of mid-seventeenth century origins, lies on the east side of the Main A345 Road and was for some years the home of the noted historian G. M. Young, Honorary Editor of the Victoria History of Wiltshire from 1947 to1953 and member of the Wiltshire Victoria County History Committee until his death in 1959.

 

C16-C17. Timber framed with wattle and daub infilling and thatched roof. Single storey and attic, 3 bays, with narrow stack bay, and extended bay to left, half bay and lean-to to right. Door opposite stack between bays 2 and 3. Framing 3 panels high with corner braces. Leaded windows. Rear partially clad in weatherboarding. Boarded door with  hatched canopy. Interior not seen.
