2018 - Best Kept Village 2018 results

The judges congratulate Wilcot on coming a very close third in the County Round of CPRE’s Best Kept Small Village competition. As mentioned above, there was absolutely no litter to be seen anywhere in the village.

The two judges visited four small villages (Ansty, Bishopstrow, Charlton and Wilcot) that had won through to the County Round of the competition. Both were most impressed by the conspicuous lack of litter anywhere and the highly commendable upkeep of the public spaces in all of the villages.

This led to a very close finish in the competition with a bare 10 marks separating the village that came first and the one in fourth place.

The result was: 1st – Charlton; 2nd – Ansty; 3rd – Wilcot; 4th – Bishopstrow

Third place – Wilcot

The judges congratulate Wilcot on coming a very close third in the County Round of CPRE’s Best Kept Small Village competition. As mentioned above, there was absolutely no litter to be seen anywhere in the village.

The pub frontage was neat and tidy and supplied water bowls for thirsty dogs alongside the outside furniture. The churchyard was a delight, beautifully maintained and the judges were most impressed with the burial ground. It was neat and tidy where it need to be; but the grasses and wildflowers elsewhere created an excellent conservation area for wildlife.

Most of the hedges and verges were well tended. However, some stretches along the unadopted road were a little unkempt and in need of some attention.

It was sad to see the War Memorial in its present state (as was mentioned in the Village Report) and the judges wish the Parish Council every success when they undertake the required remedial work. They were most impressed with the solid, new fencing alongside  the path leading down to the canal.

The village hall was neat and tidy at the front and side. Sadly the rear was rather untidy.

The noticeboards were tidy but lacked local information of forthcoming events.

However, the map was most impressive, clear and easy to follow. The judges would like to thank the village for providing such an excellent aid.

We look forward to Wilcot entering the competition in 2019.
