Parish Council Meeting Tuesday July 14th in the Wilcot

The Parish Council have scheduled a Parish Council Meeting for Tuesday  July 14th in Wilcot Village Hall car park at 7-30pm.

An agenda is available to download  here and a copy is on the parish noticeboards.

Anyone planning to attend is asked to advise the clerk by 5pm on July 13th  so we can manage the numbers attending for Covid safety.  Those attending will be expected to remain 2 metres apart and the public are asked not to attend if they feel unwell.

Stagnant Water in Business Premises- advisory

The lockdown restrictions in place over the last couple of months has meant several business premises have been forced to close which means water within the building plumbing systems will have been left stagnant. This can cause the water quality to deteriorate within the plumbing system in a number of ways:

  • Warming of water
  • Growth of micro-organisms (e.g. bacteria, legionella)
  • Increased leaching of metals found in plumbing (could cause discolouration)
  • Taste and odour from prolonged contact with some plumbing materials

We would like to bring to your attention the steps that should be taken to remove any stagnant water and renew your water supply before your workforce return to work and use the water.

  • Identify all items that use water within the building (taps, showers, appliances, toilets, urinals, drinks machines, bathrooms, etc) and any water storage (tanks and cisterns). Anything storing water should be emptied and refilled first.
  • Then gently flush all cold-water outlets individually starting with the tap nearest to where the water enters the building and move systematically to the most distant outlet including flushing toilets.  Flush until the water is cool to the touch or the same temperature as the water closest to where it enters the building.
  • Minimise the potential of creating aerosols by flushing gently, removing aerators, shower heads and any other tap inserts or attachments. Close toilet seat lids before flushing.
  • If there are any outlets that require servicing or cleaning by an external contractor (e.g. coffee machines, soft drinks machines) switch off the supply to them and do not use until a contractor can visit.
  • Ensure appliances are flushed and internal filters and softeners are checked to ensure they are flushed and working correctly as outlined in manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Once the cold water has flushed through, repeat the process with the hot water outlets.

If you have a water safety plan for the premises, this should include how to return the building water system to normal following prolonged low/no use.

Complex systems involving chemical dosing systems (eg swimming pools and spa pools) please enlist the services of a professional to service the system and return to normal operation.

New domestic abuse out of hours helpline goes live

Victims of domestic abuse or those worried that someone may be suffering in silence will have access to an out of hours helpline from tomorrow (8 May 2020).

The joint initiative between Wiltshire Council and Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service will ensure people can get access to help and support at any time day or night.

Wiltshire Council has supported the initiative with the out of hours helpline being available to cover evenings/ weekends and bank holidays from 5pm 9am. The new service will start at 5pm on 8 May 2020. The helpline number is 01793 610 610

This will complement the Splitz Support Service which currently runs through the working week from 8am to 5pm on 01225 775276

Cllr Laura Mayes, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Protection said: “We are serious about tackling domestic abuse and no one should suffer in silence. This is why we are investing in this service which means we have 24/7 cover in Wiltshire and people can reach out and access that support.

“We ask residents to be our eyes and ears in our communities and contact us if they have any concerns. Domestic abuse affects families and we know children suffer as a result. We are all having to live in very challenging times but the support is still out there.”

Emma Rawlings CEO of Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service said “We are delighted to be working with Wiltshire Council offering this much needed service and are proud to be able to extend the support and advice we provide in Swindon, across the county. People can speak to the service in absolute confidence, we are non-judgmental and will work with you for the best outcome.”

Calls to Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service are answered by a trained advisor and never by a recorded message

The service offers support to female, male, LBGTQ+ and those just wanting advice regarding a friend or family member.

Rachel Wetton Head of Service Wiltshire for Splitz Support Service said: “Splitz are delighted to see this new service, for domestic abuse victims in Wiltshire, to receive advice and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We want anyone who is experiencing domestic abuse, their family and friends and other agencies to know that support is still available despite Covid 19.

“Anyone who wants to leave an abusive relationship can do so even during lockdown and Splitz can help you to do this safely. We can also help you stay safer in your own home. You can refer to our service 24 hours a day online or email us with safe contact details at spa@splitz.org as well as telephoning us during office hours on 01225 775276.”

Wiltshire and Swindon’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Angus Macpherson said: “This is great news that both Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service and Splitz can join their valuable resources together to allow the new out of hours’ helpline to go ahead during these unusual times.

“Domestic Abuse is an awful situation for anyone to have to deal with and both Splitz and Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service, along with other partners and the police, work hard to continually support and help people who suffer at the hands of perpetrators.

“This helpline has come at a vital time when some women and men are having to spend more time with an abusive partner.

 “Domestic Abuse can happen day or night, so it’s good to know that anyone across Wiltshire can access this service at any time.

 “If it can help protect more victims and also help those who abuse, then it would have done its job.”

If you are self-isolating due to coronavirus (COVID-19), we’re here to help.

Your local Wellbeing Hub is Pewsey Coronavirus Community Assistance (PCCA) Click here for the website. Tel 01672 487022 they also have a Facebook Page.  PCCA volunteers are doing shopping, dogwalking, giving advice, helping with  transport for appointments, post that needs posting and are running a telephone befriending service or Buddy System for those self isolating at home alone.

Wiltshire Council Wellbeing Hub -Click here for updates

If you are self-isolating due to coronavirus (COVID-19) and you need help and do not have any family, friends or neighbours who can support you please let us know.
We are here to help you with:

  • deliveries of food and other essentials (if you have no funds then contact this number for assistance)
  • loneliness and wellbeing.

You can request this help by calling your local hub- see above.  You can also call Wiltshire Councils helpline on: 0300 003 4576 or via email at wellbeinghub@wiltshire.gov.uk. It’s available from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.

Food parcels being delivered by Wiltshire Council through the Well Being Hub Wiltshire Council 0300 number are emergency parcels to last people for three days while more sustainable solutions are found, such as a delivery by the voluntary sector. The council is charging for these parcels where appropriate. Please be assured that we will still be providing food parcels without charge for those that can show they are unable to afford them.

The charges are £20 to cover at least three days worth of food for one person, either meat or vegetarian, and up to £25 if the household has specialist dietary requirements such as gluten free.

All funds received for payment of these food parcels cover the cost of the food only, and no profit is being made from the charging for food parcels.

To everyone across Wiltshire and Swindon, it’s a simple message.

Please stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives.

The most important action we can all take across the county, in fighting the spread of coronavirus, is to stay at home in order to protect the NHS and save lives.

All partners across Wiltshire and Swindon are working together to take all the necessary steps to slow the spread of the virus and to ensure we are well prepared for increases in cases across the county.

NHS services across the area are ready to help minimise the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and deal with an upturn in patient numbers caused by the outbreak. Staff across councils, NHS services, police, fire and voluntary and community sector organisations are all working extremely hard to make sure we can continue to deliver our essential services and support the most vulnerable in our communities.

But we also need your help. Today. Anyone can spread the virus. Please stay at home.

The Government guidance asks that:

  • You do not meet up with or visit friends and family members that do not live with you.
  • You only leave your home for essentials such as food or medicine, to travel to work (where this absolutely cannot be done from home), to exercise, such as for a run, walk or cycle or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
  • You should minimise your time outside of your home to reduce the spread of the virus.
  • Stay local – use open spaces near to your home where possible – do not travel unnecessarily
  • Only go outside alone or with members of your own household
  • Keep at least two metres apart from anyone outside your household at all times
  • Take hygiene precautions when you are outside, and wash your hands as soon as you are back indoors

Together, with your support, we can save lives.

Temporary Closure of: Wilcot Road (Part), Pewsey (Ref: TTRO 6538)

Notice is hereby given that the Wiltshire Council has made an Order to close temporarily to all traffic:
Wilcot Road (Part), Pewsey; from its junction with Football Lane for a distance of approximately 500 metres in a north westerly direction.
To enable: Openreach to carry out a new customer connection.
Alternative route: via Wilcot Road (unaffected length) – C52 – A345 Marlborough Road – Old Hospital Road – Vale Road and vice versa.
The closure and diversion route will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
This Order will come into operation on 27 May 2020 and the closure will be required between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30 for one day. It is anticipated that the works will take the stated duration to complete depending upon weather conditions. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses where possible, although delays are likely due to the nature of the works. The Order will have a maximum duration of 18 months.

Annual Meeting of the Parish Council- cancelled on May 19th at Wilcot Village Hall

Due to the present circumstances and the relaxation of the usual legal obligation to hold annual meetings during May, the meeting originally planned for 19th May is cancelled and the Parish Council will not be meeting in the near future. The Parish Council is experimenting with Zoom so that a meeting can be held should it become necessary to do so. The Annual Parish Meeting for electors will be arranged as soon as it is permissible to do so.
